Orleans Miniature Schnauzers

About our litters . . .

2 weeks old puppy

We have made an extensive investment of time and a financial commitment to quality breeding.  Whether a puppy will be held for show or available for adoption, we treat all of our dogs with the same love and care as we would a puppy that we may want to keep with our family and show.  Our puppies are required to be spayed or neutered.

Your puppy should be a source of great love and pride of ownership.  That's why every puppy is treated like the next superstar champion.  So what's included with our puppies?

DewclawsAround three days old, the puppies dewclaws (a small vestigial claw higher up on the paw) are removed.  We feel that this is an important health issue because it is easy for a dog in later life to tear or injure the dewclaw.  Additionally, the dewclaw serves no real purpose so we have this professional procedure done and included in our price.

Tail DocA portion of the tail is also removed for various reasons.  The first is that the slimmer end of the tail can be damaged in later life and result in injury to the dog.  The second is cosmetic; if cropped at the right length the cropped tail looks great.  And of course tradition dictates the docked Schnauzer tail.  We are very careful about what length the tail is done with beauty and functionality in mind.  The tails are completed at the same time the dewclaws are removed.

Eye exam.   We examine the eyes of all our breeding boys and girls annually.  We try to have our puppies eye's exam after 8 weeks old by a veterinarian ophthalmologist and if so, the owner will be provided a copy for their puppy.

VaccinationsOur pups' excellent health comes first.  Accordingly, proper vaccination is very crucial at their young age when they are most susceptible to infection.  We vaccinate all our pups to insure their health and well being.  Your pup will come with a vaccination schedule to outline the vaccines they have received up to the date of purchase and an outline of continuing vaccination requirements.

MicrochipOur puppies may be microchipped for peace of mind that our dogs will be recovered if lost.  If we have not microchipped your pet because of their age, please have your veterinarian microchip him/her.

Worming We deworm our puppies often as babies and before they go home.  All puppies have worms which have a tenancy to flare when the puppy is stressed and my cause diarrhea.  A little antibiotic from your veterinarian usually fixes them right up.  We want to make sure your puppy can develop and grow into healthy Miniature Schnauzer.

Training and Socialization.  We work very hard to begin early puppy training and socialization.  After initial shots, we try to expose the puppies as soon as possible to children, family, and friends.  It's a good first step in teaching your puppy to be a good citizen.  As they progress, we take them to stores, a senior citizen's center, and any place else where they can experience their new, human companions.  Likewise, we train them to enjoy resting hours inside a dog crate.  We also do initial potty training; your puppy will already know how to use a doggy door (if you have one) to take care of its own needs.  And your puppy will have some experience on how to walk on a lead.

After your new puppy goes home with you, we want you to keep in touch.  We are always happy to answer questions, provide grooming advice, and to help in any way possible.  If you live nearby we are willing to teach you how to do basic grooming for your puppy. Of course, we love getting pictures and hearing how your new family member is doing.  We'll always be proud parents!
